Glossary
Platform and investment terminology, and their definitions.
Auto-sweep
An automated rule that moves cash from your bank account into an investment portfolio whenever your balance exceeds a set threshold — e.g. sweep all money into Secure Cash when the money is not invested after 1 business day. No manual action required.
Capital gain
The increase in the value of your investment above what you originally paid. If you invested RM100,000 and your portfolio is now worth RM115,000, you have a capital gain of RM15,000. Capital gains are typically realised when you sell (redeem) your investment.
Capital preservation
An investment objective focused on protecting the original amount invested (the principal) rather than maximising growth. The Secure Cash portfolio is designed for capital preservation.
Custodian
A regulated financial institution that holds and safeguards your investment assets on your behalf. Fortefi uses regulated custodians linked to RHBAM, i.e. Malaysian Trustees Berhad so that your funds are protected independently of Fortefi’s own balance sheet.
Cut-off time
The daily deadline by which a transaction (deposit or redemption) must be submitted in order to be processed on that same business day. Transactions received after the cut-off are processed the next business day. For fortefi, the cut-off time is 3PM MYT
e-KYC
Electronic Know Your Customer — the digital verification process Fortefi uses during onboarding to confirm your identity and business legitimacy, in compliance with Malaysian financial regulations.
FIFO (First-In-First-Out)
Fortefi’s capital allocation method. Capital is deployed into investment pools in the order it arrives, targeting pools with the highest liquidity scores first. When a better-performing pool becomes available, future capital flows there while existing allocations remain.
Fund manager
A licensed professional or firm that manages the underlying investment funds on behalf of investors. Fortefi currently partners with RHB Asset Management (RHBAM) and UOB Asset Management (UOBAM) as trusted fund managers. Fortefi continues onboard more institutional fund managers to provide best in class investment product offerings.
Idle cash
Money sitting in a bank account (typically a current or savings account) earning little to no return. In an inflationary environment, idle cash loses real purchasing power over time. Fortefi helps businesses activate idle cash by investing it to our portfolios.
Income distribution
Regular payouts to investors from the income earned within a fund — such as interest, dividends, or bond coupons. For money market funds, income is typically accrued daily and distributed monthly. The amount distributed per unit depends on the fund’s net income over the period.
Indicative Portfolio Value
The estimated value of your portfolio displayed throughout the Business Day based on the latest available official Net Asset Values (NAVs) of the underlying funds. As different funds publish their NAVs at different times, the portfolio value is updated progressively until all applicable NAVs have been received and processed.
Liquidity
How quickly an investment can be converted back into cash without significant loss of value. Fortefi’s Secure Cash portfolio has approximately 1 business day liquidity, while Advanced portfolios have approximately 5 business days.
Liquidity score
Fortefi’s proprietary metric used to rank investment pools. It evaluates historical volatility, redemption flexibility, and cash-on-hand ratios to identify the most liquid, highest-quality pools for capital deployment.
Money market fund
A type of low-risk investment fund that invests in bank deposits only. Money market funds form the foundation of the Secure Cash portfolios.
NAV (Net Asset Value)
The price per unit of a fund, calculated by dividing the total value of the fund’s assets (minus liabilities) by the number of units outstanding. When you invest, you buy units at the current NAV. When you redeem, units are sold at the prevailing NAV.
New Account
Creates a new purpose-based account within your Fortefi profile, allowing you to segregate funds for different business objectives such as Operating Cash, Retained Earnings, Tax Reserve, Payroll, or Investment Capital. Each account can be assigned its own portfolio and investment strategy while remaining under the same client profile.
Portfolio
A pre-defined collection of investments selected and managed according to a specific risk and return objective. Fortefi offers six portfolios: Secure Cash, Secure Cash+, Balanced, Balanced+, Advanced, and Advanced+.
Redemption
The process of selling your investment units back to the fund and receiving cash in return. The time it takes to receive cash after a redemption request is the liquidity window (1–5 business days depending on portfolio).
Risk profile
A classification of how much investment risk a portfolio carries. Fortefi’s portfolios range from Very Conservative (Secure Cash) through Balanced to Very Aggressive (Advanced+). Your risk profile should match your business’s tolerance for value fluctuation and investment horizon.
Robo-advisory
An automated, algorithm-driven investment service that manages portfolios intelligently. Fortefi’s platform uses algorithm driven technology to select, allocate, and rebalance investments in real time based on your risk profile and liquidity score.
Subscription
The process of investing money into a selected Fortefi portfolio. Once payment is received and the order is authorised before the cut-off time, units are purchased based on the applicable Net Asset Value (NAV).
Surplus cash
Cash held by a business beyond what is needed for immediate operations. Surplus cash is a prime candidate for investment through Fortefi’s Balanced or Advanced portfolios to generate returns without sacrificing operational liquidity.
Tax Voucher
An annual statement issued to investors summarising taxable income distributions received from their investments during the year. This document may be used for tax reporting purposes where applicable.
Virtual account
A dedicated bank account assigned to each client that enables instant balance updates upon receipt of funds and ensures accurate segregation and attribution of client monies. Within the Fortefi platform, virtual sub-accounts also allow clients to segregate and label different pools of money (e.g. operating cash, retained earnings and investment capital) without requiring multiple physical bank accounts, providing clearer cash management and financial reporting.
Volatility
A measure of how much an investment’s value fluctuates over time. Low volatility (e.g. 0.21% for Secure Cash) means the value is very stable. Higher volatility (7.00% for Advanced+) means more price swings, which also means higher potential gains or losses.
